Srinagar, Dec 23: J&K Cabinet Minister Javed Ahmad Rana on Monday said that there are apprehensions that reservations have exceeded the prescribed quota limit and stated that the government will take all possible steps within its purview to address the issue.
Talking to reporters, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Rana said that certain reservations, such as ST1 and ST2, have been enacted by Parliament and remain beyond our control. Unfortunately, some people are attempting to exploit this by falsely alleging that JKNC is favoring one group over another,” he said.
Rana said that the JKNC has always upheld the interests of regions, sub-regions, and communities, ensuring inclusivity and taking everyone on board.
On Monday, several political leaders and hundreds of students gathered outside the residence of Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah to seek a review of the reservation policy, which was introduced by the lieutenant governor-led administration earlier this year.
Hours after the protest, chief minister Omar Abdullah called in the students and spoke with them in his office.
