Srinagar, Oct 07: Deputy Drug Controller Kashmir, Nighat Andrabi on Friday urged the general public that there is no need to panic as the WHO banned syrups were not supplied anywhere in India.
She appealed to the general public not lend their ear to rumor mongers.
Speaking to media persons here, Dy. Drug Controller Kashmir said that the drug control offices were immediately put on alert soon after the communiqué was issued by the WHO.
“Our teams have started inspections across the valley. They have not seized any drug so far”, she said.
She said they have verified accounts from higher authorities that the banned samples were manufactured for export purposes only.
“The syrups were supplied to an African country only and were not supplied anywhere in India,” she maintained.
The Deputy Drug Controller Kashmir added that despite the current situation our teams are alert and are monitoring the situation keenly.

Identify formulations from distribution channels in Kashmir: Drug Controller to ADCs
Taking serious cognizance of alert issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) pertaining to a probe ordered about four cough syrups, the Deputy Drug Controller Kashmir has asked all Assistant Drug Controllers (ADCs) for immediate action after identifying the formulations from the distribution channels.
A communiqué issued by Deputy Drug Controller Kashmir, stated that all assistant drugs controllers are requested for immediate necessary action after identifying the formulations from the distribution channels.
The communiqué stated that any action taken or seizures made may be shared with this office for onward appraisal of higher-ups while stressing that the matter may be treated as most urgent.
The WHO had issued an alert over four cough and cold syrups made by pharmaceutical companies in India, warning they could be linked to the deaths of 66 children in the Gambia.
