Srinagar, Mar 18: The government has announced plans to establish Cable Car Gondola Projects in Pahalgam and Doodthpathri to enhance the allure of these popular destinations in Kashmir. The plan further includes the introduction of zip lines, an expansion of the ski resort in Gulmarg, and the initiation of skiing activities in Doodthpathri.
Director Tourism, Raja Yaqoob told Rising Kashmir that the proposed cable car projects aim to replicate the success of the existing Gulmarg Gondola, which has been a major attraction for tourists seeking breathtaking views of the Himalayan range
“The new gondolas will provide visitors with an unprecedented opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Pahalgam and Doodthpathri from a unique vantage point,” he said.
Yaqoob said that in addition to the gondola projects, the expansion of the Gulmarg ski resort is set to cater to the growing demand for winter sports.
“With its high-altitude slopes and powdery snow, Gulmarg has long been a favourite for skiing enthusiasts. The expansion will include the development of new ski runs and the enhancement of existing facilities to accommodate more visitors and provide a world-class skiing experience,” he added.
Director Tourism said the introduction of zip lines is expected to add an element of adventure to the region’s tourism offerings. These zip lines will allow thrill-seekers to soar over valleys and forests and will offer an adrenaline-pumping experience, he said.
Yaqoob said the most ambitious part of the plan is the introduction of skiing in Doodthpathri. Known for its lush meadows, the place is poised to become a new hub for winter sports, he said.
The top officer said the tourism industry is looking for innovative ways to attract visitors and provide them with unique experiences. “The Cable Car Gondola Projects, along with the expansion of the ski resort and the introduction of new activities, are expected to significantly contribute to the local economy by creating jobs and supporting ancillary businesses, he said.
Raja said the government has emphasized the importance of sustainability and environmental conservation. The projects are being designed to have minimal impact on the natural surroundings, ensuring that the beauty of Pahalgam and Doodthpathri remains unspoiled for future generations to enjoy.
“The Cable Car Gondola Projects, zip lines, and ski resort expansion are not just about enhancing the tourist experience, they are about creating a legacy of responsible tourism that respects and preserves the natural splendour of the region,” Yaqoob said. “With the right blend of adventure, leisure, and sustainability, these projects are set to redefine the tourism landscape of the region and position it as a leading destination on the global tourism map.”
