Jammu, Dec 24 : Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, will dedicate more than 10,000 newly established Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (M-PACSs), Dairy, and Fisheries Cooperatives to the nation at a national conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. The event, scheduled at the ICAR Convention Centre, Pusa, will see Shah distribute registration certificates, RuPay Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), and micro ATMs to the newly formed societies, which are designed to promote financial inclusion and empower rural communities.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry of Cooperation is focused on establishing cooperative societies in every Panchayat to foster local development and self-reliance. The newly created M-PACSs are expected to be crucial in boosting economic empowerment, particularly in rural areas, by offering both financial services and a platform for community collaboration.
The conference will address the critical role these societies play in stabilizing livelihoods, providing additional income sources, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Amit Shah has emphasised the importance of cooperative societies, particularly in women-led panchayats, and believes they are vital for empowering local communities and promoting economic growth.
The newly formed M-PACS will include credit societies, dairy cooperatives, and fisheries cooperatives. The Ministry of Cooperation’s ongoing initiatives are designed to strengthen India’s rural economy, enhance financial inclusion, and support employment generation. Since the Ministry’s establishment in 2021, significant strides have been made in reviving the Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), which serve as a foundation for cooperative growth.
Amit Shah also outlined his vision to establish a cooperative institution in every panchayat across the country within five years, as part of Prime Minister Modi’s vision of “Sehkar Se Samriddhi.” As of now, over 10,000 new M-PACS, dairy, and fisheries cooperatives have been created, with over 3,500 M-PACS, 6,288 dairy cooperatives, and 685 fisheries cooperatives already registered.
The national conference will feature approximately 1,200 delegates from across the country, including representatives from M-PACS, dairy, and fisheries cooperatives, along with state government officials and representatives from various related organizations. The discussions will center on enhancing the operational capabilities of these cooperatives, promoting sustainable agriculture, and securing additional income sources for farmers and rural communities.
