Govt takes up 74293 public works in current fiscal

Srinagar, Oct 02: The J&K government has taken up a record 74293 public works this financial year (2022-23), with a total funding of Rs 11,26,560.3 lakhs out of which over 60 percent of amount stands released, according to official details.
The number of works taken up in the current financial year is more than the total number of works taken up in the previous two financial years of 2021-22 (38688 works) and 2020-21 (22277 works), reads the details.
According to the details available with the Department of Finance, out of the total fund approval of 1126560.3 lakh a total of Rs 688572.08 lakh has been released.
The amount/ works are a cumulative total taken under UT Capex, District Capex and Area Development Grants (District Development Council, Block Development Council, and PRI), according to the official document.
The detailed document further reads during the current 2022-23 financial year, under UT Capex a total of 26891 works have been taken up, under the district sector a total of 2880 works have been taken up and under the Area Development Grants a total of 44522 works have been taken up.
As per the details under UT Capex, the highest number of the works have gone to the Education department which is at 6478 against a fund approval of Rs 47858 Lakhs, while the highest amount of funding has gone to Urban Development Department of Rs 142427 lakh against a total of 3414 works.
Similarly, under the District Capex budget, Jammu district has got the highest number of 4050 works followed by Anantnag at 3536 works.
The lowest number of works under the district Capex have been taken up in Srinagar with 558 works followed by Ganderbal 805. North Kashmir’s border district Baramulla has got the highest amount of fund approval of Rs 12476 Lakh against a total of 1746 works, as per the details.
Additional Chief Secretary Vivek Bharadwaj, who is also the Financial Commissioner of J&K said the government was doing every possible effort to fasttrack the public works with maximum transparency.
It may be recalled that during the financial year 2021-22, the total number of works taken up were 38688 and an amount of 1712102.4 lakh was released out of which 988762.36 Lakh expenditure was reported.
Similarly, in the financial year 2020-21, the number of works taken up were 22277 against a total fund release of 1222799.09 Lakh out of which a total of Rs 645344.51 Lakh expenditure was reported.
