Govt sets up panel to look into misappropriation of MGNREGA funds

Srinagar, Jan 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Government  Monday ordered an enquiry to fix the responsibility of officers in the misappropriation of funds in MGNREGA works in Jammu.
The move comes days after the preliminary enquiry has been conducted by Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Jammu reported alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs. 86240000 in MGNREGA works executed in Blocks Bhalwal, Mathwar in Jammu district.
 Director, Directorate of Rural Development Department Jammu, Mohammad Mumtaz Ali, JKAS told Rising Kashmir that they have ordered an enquiry into MGNREGA works based on the allegations of the complainant.
“After proper investigation, it can be proved whether there was misappropriation of funds or not,” he said.
Dir RDD Jammu said the department had already conducted one enquiry in this case and in which it was found that all works have done as per the amount, payments given to the contractors.
Mumtaz said to assure the Director Social Audit, we have ordered a detailed enquiry to verify the claims on the ground. The claims of 8 Crore fraud are yet to prove,” he said.
Earlier an order issued by the department reads that in view of the above, Director of Social Audit is directed to depute her team of 2 DRPs with some experienced VRPs to comprehensively audit of all works identified in the preliminarily report and submit a detailed report to concerned officers,” it said.
As per the order, report should reach the office of Commissioner Secretary within 10 days from the date of issuance of this order.   
It further said that Block Development Officer Mathwar/Balwal has been directed to provide all relevant record(s) of the case to the committee, failing which immediate disciplinary action shall be taken against him by ACD Jammu.
