JAMMU, Nov 01: In a bid to give Jammu City a contemporary and ‘smart’ makeover akin to the Sabarmati River Front in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is in the process of developing a modern ‘smart’ colony near the Tawi River Front in Jammu. This ambitious project aims to boost tourism while rejuvenating the city’s appearance, often referred to as the “City of Temples.”
The Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) has taken the lead on this transformative endeavor, and its plan is now in its final stages. General Manager of JSCL, Ashish Anand, revealed that the planning for this modern colony, complete with state-of-the-art amenities, is well underway. Notably, technical consultants who worked on the Sabarmati River Front in Gujarat have been engaged for this monumental project.
The proposed modern colony along the Tawi River Front in Jammu is set to be a one-of-a-kind development, and will be only the second of its kind in the country, following the Sabarmati River Front. The project envisions the creation of a five-star hotel, high-rise buildings, residential flats, high street retail shops lining both sides of the River Tawi, playgrounds, pathways, parking areas, amusement parks with open spaces, and various other modern facilities.
With an estimated budget running into thousands of crores, the project is poised to be a significant investment in the city’s infrastructure and tourism potential. Once the planning is finalized, it will be submitted to the Housing and Urban Development Department for approval.
The Tawi River Front project will span a 3.5 km area on both sides of the sacred River Tawi, and the proposed modern colony is expected to occupy a substantial portion of this area, contributing to the city’s revitalization and its emergence as a ‘smart’ and attractive destination.
