Srinagar, May 01: Jammu & Kashmir National Conference National senior leader and Member of Parliament from Anantnag, Hasnain Masoodi on Monday expressed dismay over the “apathy, insensitivity and indifference” of the Union Government and LG administration toward the “grave problems” faced by the working class in Jammu & Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, Masoodi said that while unemployment levels have reached an all-time high, a good number of those counted as employed are underemployed and paid humiliating wages far less than the minimum wagers prescribed under law.
“The miserable plight of thousands of the workers, serving government and semi-government departments under different names and labels like daily rated, casual, need-based, contractual, consolidated, local fund workers, etc, though forming the backbone of such departments are pushed to the streets to demand regularisation, minimum wages and timely payment of their salaries,” he said.
He also highlighted the “injustice” meted out to the 51 DRW workers of JK Cements. “The 51 DRWs and their families have been pushed to starvation. These workers are similarly placed as other DRWs serving in government departments and have a right to continue and to be regularised like other DRWs,” he said.
Masoodi demanded regularisation of all the DRWs, casual, need-based, consolidated, contractual, contingent paid, local fund, CIC and other workers and payment of minimum wages to all the workers pending regularisation.
