Anantnag, Jan 13: Principal Secretary, Power Development Department (PDD), H. Rajesh Prasad on Saturday reiterated the UT government’s commitment to improving the quality of power services and infrastructure in the region. He assured the public that their concerns would be addressed systematically, with concrete measures implemented to enhance the overall power scenario.
Highlighting the challenges faced during winter, the Principal Secretary explained the reduced water levels impacting power generation, leading to electricity purchases from other states.
Emphasizing the government’s solar light program and Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana providing a 90 percent subsidy for solar pumps, he encouraged the public to take due benefits of the scheme.
Prasad presided over a mega public outreach programme cum grievance redressal camp at Akura here, which was organised to facilitate direct interaction between the public and government officials, with a special focus on addressing grievances and concerns related to power services.
The Public Grievance Redressal Camp was attended by Chairman DDC M.Y. Gorsi, PRIs’ representatives, and a large gathering of people from the area. Heads of various government departments were present to address sector-specific concerns.
The public and representatives shared their issues and demands, including the development of playfields, restoration of road stretches, the establishment of educational institutions, skill development centres, fruit mandis, ATM facilities, and transport services. Predominantly, the raised issues pertained to power supply and infrastructure, tourism promotion, Jal Jeevan Mission, and related matters.
After patiently listening to the grievances and demands, the Principal Secretary sought on-the-spot responses from concerned district officers and assured the public that genuine demands and issues would be looked into on a priority basis. He emphasized the importance of the cent percent implementation of centrally sponsored schemes on the ground, visible impacts for overall development, and the welfare of the people.
Regarding the issue of drug abuse, the Principal Secretary sought active cooperation from the public to eradicate this societal problem and save the younger generation from its disastrous effects. He stressed zero-tolerance against drug abuse.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, SF Hamid, expressed the purpose of holding such grievance redressal camps, emphasizing the timely redressal of public grievances as a top priority for the administration. The locals expressed gratitude for providing a platform for their voices and commended the proactive approach of the government in finding solutions to their problems.
