Ganderbal, May 10: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said the government has launched several developmental initiatives in Ganderbal to improve infrastructure, strengthen healthcare facilities, promote tourism, and create better opportunities for the youth.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Ganderbal, he said that after the elections, the government focused on accelerating development works in the district to ensure that people receive better public facilities and improved civic infrastructure.

The CM said several youth-centric projects have been taken up in the area, including the establishment of a library and a youth hostel, which are expected to benefit students and young people by providing educational and recreational facilities. "The government wants to create more opportunities for the youth and ensure they have access to modern infrastructure and community spaces," he said.

Abdullah said several road construction projects are also underway across the district to improve connectivity and ease transportation problems faced by residents. The administration, he said, is continuously monitoring the pace of these works to ensure timely completion.

Highlighting tourism-related development, the Chief Minister said the government has initiated the first phase of a riverfront project in Beehama to beautify the town and develop it into a tourist attraction. He said the project is aimed at improving the overall appearance of the area while also creating economic opportunities linked to tourism.

On healthcare, Omar said new diagnostic machines are being installed at District Hospital Ganderbal to make medical testing facilities more accessible and affordable for the public. "Patients who earlier had to spend around Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 for certain tests at private hospitals would now be able to avail the same services at significantly lower costs, ranging between Rs 500 and Rs 800," he said.

The CM said the government’s primary objective is to ensure real development on the ground and improve the quality of life for people across the district. "Regular meetings and field visits help the administration assess the progress of ongoing works, identify delays, and initiate new projects wherever required," he said.

He further said that while several projects are progressing at a satisfactory pace, some works are still incomplete. He added that concerned officers have been directed to speed up the execution process and ensure that pending projects are completed at the earliest for the benefit of the public.
