Srinagar, Dec 14: On the second day of the advanced laparoscopic hernia surgery training program, the surgeons from outside J&K were imparted training in the management of troubleshooting problems and complications when performing laparoscopic surgeries.
The first 2-Day program was organized by GMC Srinagar in collaboration with the Postgraduate Dept. of Minimal Access and General Surgery at the medical college.
Head Department of Surgery, GMC Srinagar Prof. (Dr) Iqbal Saleem Mir, said on the second day, four more cases were operated in the theatres of SMHS hospital which were appreciated by the surgeons from outside the valley.
“They were pleased to see the management protocols that have been developed in the department over the past 30 years in the laparoscopic hernial surgeries,” he said.
Dr Iqbal said the unique opportunity of transmitting knowledge to the surgeons from outside valley has given an impetus to future prospectus of medical tourism in the valley.
He stressed that the hospital is equipped with all the latest equipment and manpower with the help of which every kind of laparoscopic surgery is being conducted in the valley.
Dr Iqbal further said that people should not venture out of the valley for those surgeries that can be performed locally here.
Dr Hardeep Singh, a surgeon participant from Punjab was happy to talk to Rising Kashmir and said that he was amazed with the hospitality of Kashmiri people.
He was impressed by the techniques, and technological advances shown during the two-day event by different faculty members of the Postgraduate Dept. of Minimal Access and General Surgery.
Dr Sonali Mittal, Assistant Professor, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, New Delhi said that she had never expected that the medical college in the farthest corner of the country will be doing so much work with such a perfection.
She was of the opinion that the work being conducted at GMC Srinagar is at par with international standards. She was pleased with the warm welcome she received in and outside the hospital.
Dr Rakesh, who had come as a participant from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi said these two days have been extremely informative for his understanding of the surgical aspects of laparoscopic hernia management.
He was in praise for the Department of Surgery especially the senior faculty members including its head of the department.
“If the faculty teach their juniors like this, certainly the bar of surgical expertise will be raised further. I am proud to have participated in the two-day event which was fruitful and hoped to get more chance to learn more better things,” he said.
Senior surgeons, GMC Srinagar doctors, and SKIMS Soura DNB students have also participated in the training. Dr Iqbal said this is a revolution that has come to the fore regarding the medical field in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, doctors from J&K would go outside for training but now doctors from outside are coming here for the same which is an achievement for the region’s medical field.
Doctors said the move aims to elevate the proficiency of the medical community in laparoscopic techniques, fostering an exchange of medical expertise and knowledge.
