Baramulla, Feb 28: Government Medical College Baramulla has successfully performed its first dual chamber pacemaker implant surgery, providing a new medical facility for the people of North Kashmir.
The procedure was performed on an 80-year-old patient who had been experiencing recurrent loss of consciousness and conduction block.
The surgery, which lasted an hour, was led by Dr. Mudassir Muzamil and Dr. Owais, with assistance from Dr. Javaid Ahmad and technical staff led by Mr. Jaffar Ahmad. The patient is reportedly doing well after the operation.
Dr. (Prof) Iffat Shah, Principal Govt. Medical College Baramulla said that the facility will be a significant benefit to the people of North Kashmir, particularly senior citizens who previously had to travel to Srinagar or outside the state for pacemaker implants.
Dr. Shah also congratulated the Department of Medicine for achieving this milestone in cardiac surgery.
The success of the surgery is significant as such operations are being performed at only a few centers in Kashmir. This new capability of the GMC Baramulla will be a boon to the healthcare sector in North Kashmir.
Dr. Parvez Masoodi Medical Superintendent AHGMC Baramulla told Rising Kashmir that this new facility will prove to be a boon for the health sector of North Kashmir, benefiting the people in general and senior citizens in particular.
“Previously, those in need of pacemaker implants had to travel to Srinagar or outside the state,” he added.
He said that such operations are performed at very few centers in Kashmir.
“In near future we are planning more difficult cardiac procedures,” Dr. Parvaiz said.
