GMC Baramulla Observes World Health Day 2023; Highlights the Call for Health Equity

The Department of Community Medicine at GMC Baramulla organized an event to mark World Health Day on Friday.

The event was aimed at raising awareness about health equity and promoting the theme of “HEALTH for ALL,” as called for by the World Health Organization (WHO) on its 75th anniversary.

The program began with opening remarks from Dr. Zahid Ali Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, who introduced the speakers and talked about the history of World Health Day.

Dr. Abdul Majeed Ganai, Professor and Head of the Department of Community Medicine, delivered a speech focused on the theme of the event.

Dr. Nazir Ahmad Khan, Professor and Head of the Department of ENT and Registrar Academics, was the chief guest and shared his ideas on the occasion with the students. 

Medical Superintendent of GMC Baramulla, Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, stressed the importance of celebrating World Health Day.

A quiz competition was conducted among the MBBS students from different batches, which was moderated by Dr. Zahid Ali Khan and assisted by Dr. Muzammil Nazir, Dr. Syed Najmul Ain, Dr. Saima Nazir, Dr. Ishtiyaq, Dr. Zubair, Miss Nadiya, Mr. Waseem, and Mr. Satish.

A drawing competition was also organized, with judges from different departments, including Dr. Shakeelur Rehman (Associate Professor Department of Pharmacology), Dr. Shumail Bashir (Associate Professor Department of Chest Medicine), and Dr. Berjina Farooq (Assistant Professor Department of Anatomy). 

The event was attended by faculty members, paramedical staff, MBBS students from GMC Baramulla, and staff from the District Legal Services Authority Baramulla, who were also collaborators for the event. 

At the end of the program, the winners of the quiz and drawing competition were felicitated. 

Dr. Uruj, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, gave the vote of thanks.

The event was a successful initiative to spread awareness about health equity and promote the theme of “HEALTH for ALL” in the region.
