Srinagar, Jan 05: The Government Medical College Baramulla and Anantnag have made remarkable strides in postgraduate education, securing accreditation for an additional eleven 21 DNB seats from the National Board of Examinations (NBEMS) for 2024 session.
Principal Government Medical College Baramulla, Dr Ruby Reshi said the college has achieved an important academic achievement in the post-graduate teaching programs by getting additional PG teaching seats in different specialties.
“In the beginning of this year, we have good news that we have got additional ten (10) seats in the specialities of general surgery, dermatology and pathology,” she said.
Dr Ruby said in the year 2021 postgraduate teaching seats which were approved were eleven in the specialities of general medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and community medicine in addition to the 22 diploma seats.
“Over the year till 2023, we got some additional six (6) postgraduate teaching seats in the departments of anaesthesia, paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology,” she said.
The principal said the additional seats have gone to a total of 49 postgraduate teaching seats in GMC Baramulla per year which is an academic achievement.
“The additional seats will help improve the efficiency and functioning of the departments. The students will get excellent teaching and academic facilities. This is all happening with improvements in the infrastructure that has been put in place,” she said.
Similarly, GMC Anantnag has also secured accreditation for an additional eleven (11) DNB seats from the National Board of Examinations (NBEMS) for the 2024 session. The addition in seta has elevated the total count of accredited seats to an impressive sixty-three (63).
Principal GMC Anantnag, Prof (Dr) Anjum Farhana appreciated the pivotal roles played by various departments, including Orthopedics (3 seats), Pathology (3 seats), Microbiology (3 seats), and Physiology (2 seats). She emphasized the dual impact of these additions, enriching academic pursuits and enhancing the quality of patient care.
DNB Coordinator and Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine, Dr Azia Manzoor, highlighted the significance of this accreditation as it marks the eighteenth department at GMC Anantnag recognized by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), New Delhi.
He also noted that GMC Anantnag stands as the sole medical college with the highest number of accredited DNB seats among new medical colleges.
This move is aimed at delivering advanced education and training in diverse medical fields, reinforcing its role in nurturing skilled healthcare professionals.
Dr Owvass H Dar, the spokesperson for GMC Anantnag, stressed on the institution’s commitment to transparency and effective communication with the public. The milestone reflects GMC Anantnag’s pursuit of excellence in medical education and its contribution to shaping a robust healthcare landscape, he added.
