Srinagar, Aug 23: GMC Anantnag on Friday successfully performed first of its kind complex spinal cord (intradural) tumor removal surgery on a 45-year-old male patient.
The surgery was expertly conducted by a dedicated team comprising Dr Younis Kamal, Spine Surgeon and HOD Orthopaedics and Dr Basharat Mujtaba, Senior Neurosurgeon.
A spokesperson of the medical college said the patient hailing from Anantnag district is currently recuperating swiftly in the ICU ward and is in a stable condition.
“The success of this procedure not only highlights the surgical prowess of the medical team but also reflects the exceptional support provided by highly qualified anaesthesia team,” he said.
Principal GMC Anantnag, Prof. (Dr.) Rukhsana Najeeb has appreciated the entire medical team involved in this landmark and first of its kind surgery.
“This remarkable achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication, expertise, and collaborative spirit of our medical professionals,” she said.
She said performing such a complex and delicate procedure our institution’s history showcases advanced healthcare services and bringing cutting-edge medical solutions to the people of southern Kashmir.
“I am proud of Dr Younis Kamal and Dr Basharat Mujtaba for their exemplary surgical skills and teamwork. Their ability to execute this challenging surgery speaks volumes about their professionalism and dedication to patient care,” Prof. Rukhsana said.
She also commended the outstanding support provided by the anaesthesia team and OT staff, whose contributions were pivotal in ensuring the success and safety of this procedure.
The principal also acknowledged the trust and support of the community saying they are grateful to people of Anantnag and surrounding regions for their continued faith in their services.
“We look forward to undertaking more such advanced procedures in the future, thereby reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for specialized treatments,” she said.
