‘Global leaders must intervene to stop violence in Middle East’

Handwara, Sept 29: Former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister, Omar Abdullah on Sunday called upon world leaders to use their influence to put an end to the ongoing violence in Gaza, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.
Speaking to the media persons here, Abdullah called for swift global intervention to stop the killing of innocent civilians in these conflict zones. He appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use his authority to contribute toward halting the bloodshed.
Omar said that October 07 marks one year since the start of the Gaza war. He expressed concern over the growing possibility of conflict in other regions. “The world powers must step in and prevent further escalation, particularly in war-torn Middle Eastern nations,” he said.
Addressing a query on Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) president Er Rashid, the NC leader said, “Rashid, recently released from Tihar Jail, is already associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).” “How could someone with such affiliations align with the National Conference for forming a new government in Jammu & Kashmir,” he asked.
The former CM has been critical of Er Rashid since his release, alleging that the BJP has assigned the Baramulla MP a special task to influence votes in the union territory.
“Despite being aware of the impending abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A as early as 2018, Er Rashid remained silent on the issue until the move was officially made,” he reiterated.
