Srinagar, Jan 26: Amid cold breeze, the historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar witnessed an unprecedented gathering on Republic Day as tourists from across many states joined locals in celebrating the 76th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution.
The Ghata Ghar (Clock Tower) became the focal point for patriotic fervor and cultural exchange. Dozens of tourists from states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh gathered at the Clock Tower, waving the Tricolour and singing the national anthem.
Ayushi Jan, a software engineer from Meerat told Rising Kashmir that this was his first visit to Kashmir, and she wanted to celebrate Republic Day here to send a message that this place is as much a part of India as any other.
“Lal Chowk holds deep historical value, and being here today feels like an honor, ” she said, adding that she will explore Kashmir in coming days along with her friends.
Local residents, too, joined the celebration, welcoming the tourists with warmth. It is heartening to see people from all over the country here,” said Gulzar Ahmad, a cab driver near Lal Chowk. “This is a reminder that Kashmir is a part of India’s heart and soul.”
Authorities ensured smooth conduct of the event with tight security measures in place. Despite the cold weather, the enthusiasm of the participants did not waver.
Pritam Mehta, a college student from Jaipur said that standing at Lal Chowk, waving the Tricolour, feels surreal. The people here are so welcoming. It is a reminder that diversity is India’s greatest strength, he said.
