Kupwara, Feb 24: A day-long seminar on ‘G-20 Summit 2023 and Opportunities for Kashmir’ was organised on Friday by Government Degree College (GDC) Sogam.
The seminar was jointly organized by the Debates and Seminar Committee (D&SC), IQAC, NSS Unit, Mission Shakti of GDC Sogam in collaboration with 28-RR of Indian Army.
The event was chaired by Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray, DC Kupwara and Co-Chaired by Mr. Yougal Kumar Manhas, SSP, Kupwara. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion include Col. Anupam Hajela (CO, 28-RR Bn.), Dr G. N. Lone (Principal, GDC Hadipora, Baramulla), Sarfaraz Bashir (DySP, Sogam) and many officials from army, police and civil administration Sogam.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Kupwara highlighted the role of India as a global leader. “India is a great democratic country and third largest economy of the world in purchasing power and has achieved G-20 Presidency when it is celebrating 75 years of its independence called as Amritkaal,” he said.
Col. Hajela gave a detailed historical overview of the G-20 and the role of India’s Presidency in highlighting, and resolving the global issues related to economy, environment and climate, gender, and other global issues.
Referring to the glorious past of India, contextualizing and explaining the meaning and theme of G-20 (2023) logo and theme and with reference to India as one of the largest economies, he said, India is inching towards the glory that it was in the past.
In the Seminar, three Resource Persons namely Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo (Associate Prof., Physics, GDC Baramulla), Dr. Shazia Lone (AP, EVS, GDC Kupwara) and Prof. Mudasir Ahmad Wani (AP, Political Science, GDC Women, Kupwara) spoke respectively on G-20: ICT and Education in Kashmir, Climate Change and its Impact and G-20 and India’s Vision of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakht (one earth, one family, one future).
Four students of the college, namely Danish Fayaz Tantry (BA 5th Sem), Wahida Ahsan (BSc 6th Sem), Danish Bashir (BSc 6th Sem) and Syed Shaziya (BA 6th Sem) spoke on the themes.
The presentations and speeches were followed by the distribution of mementos and certificates among the guests, resource persons, student speakers and organizers of the seminar and ended with a formal Vote of Thanks, proposed by Prof. Sajad Ahmad (HoD, English).
The program was attended by hundreds of students (including NSS volunteers and Mission Shakti volunteers), staff members of the college, students of adjoining schools, many officers/ officials and personnel from 28-RR, police and civil administration Sogam.
The Patron of the event was Dr. Shamim Ahmad Dar (Principal GDC Sogam) and the Conveners were Prof. Mehbooba Bano (HoD, Political Science), Prof. Ishfaq Hussain (AP, English; Convener, D&SC) and Dr. Tauseef Ahmad Parray (AP, Islamic Studies; Convener, Media Cell), who also acted as the Rapporteur of the seminar.
The event was moderated by Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah (Sr. AP, Education/ IQAC Coordinator). The Welcome Address was given by the worthy principal, Dr. Shamim Ahmad Dar and the Foreword of the Seminar was presented by Col. Anupam Hajela.
