Srinagar, May 16: The Debates & Seminar Committee in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, Government Degree College (GDC) Khansahib on Tuesday organized a public lecture on the ‘Group of Twenty’ (G20).
About 70 students and faculty members of the college participated in this program.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Sajad Padder, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the institution. The speaker dwelt on the origin & evolution of G20 with reference to the financial crisis of the 1990s. He deliberated on the structural and functional aspects of the forum: The Sherpa & Financial Tracks & their working groups.
He further said, “India played a key role in G20 from the very beginning and accorded it a very high priority. All its summits since 2008 were attended by the Prime Minister. We have successfully used the forum in highlighting the issues of climate change, favourable terms of trade, multilateralism, equitable development etc.”
While dwelling on India’s G20 presidency, he focused on priority areas like green development, inclusive growth, digital public infrastructure and women led development.
Earlier, Principal of the institution, Dr Nargis Bano urged the faculty members to sensitize students about the G20 and India’s role in it.
