GDC Bomai organises seminar on environmental sustainability

Srinagar, March 26: A seminar titled “Environmental Sustainability: Challenges and Prospects” was organised by the college debates and seminar committee in collaboration with NSS Unit and ECO Club of Govt. Degree college Bomai in north Kashmir.
 
The event was presided over by Principal GDC Bomai, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Farooq Mir. In his welcome address he said that institutions have to connect with students to understand the 
difficulty of Climate Change and the innovations already in progress to solve the problem.
 
Prof. (Dr.) Sohaib Ahmad Bandh, from GDC D.H Pora, Prof. Javed Majeed GDC Dangiwacha, Prof.(Dr) Khursheed Ahmad Wani from GDC ThindamKreeri were key note speakers. 
 
Dr.Sohaib, in his speech, said that if we don’t change the triple planetary crises of Climate Change, nature and biodiversity loss,pollution waste will only be accelerated it is the need to move forward and shape our world. 
 
Prof. Javed Majeed said that UNEP is the leading Global voice on environment to improve quality of life. Prof. (Dr) Khursheed Ahmad Wani stressed that purpose of holding seminars is to help children young people and adults to learn about and engage with Climate Change, Biodiversity Loss and Sustainability. 
 
Besides Teaching and Non-Teaching staff, a large number of students were present. 
 
On the occasion thewinners of different competitions and the NSS volunteers were felicitated by the Guest Principals of various Colleges namely Prof. Shameem Ahmad Dar Principal GDC Sogam, Prof.(Dr.) Gh.Nabi Lone Principal GDC Hadipora, Prof.(Dr) Bashir Ahmad Parry principal GDC Womens Sopore, Prof.(Dr) Ulfat Jan Founder of 
principal of GDC Bomai and (Dr.) Abdul Ahad principal HSS Bomai. 
 
The Event was organised by Prof. Subzar Ahmad Sheikh (NSS P.O) H.O.D Botany and Prof. Mir Shabir Ahmad H.O.D Chemistry, coordinated by Prof. Mohammad Ashraf Najar and supported by other teaching and Non-teaching Staff including Dr. Misbah Nazir, Dr. Saleem Ahmad Yatoo, Dr. Aadil Altaf Lone, Dr. G.N Lone, Dr. Sabia Bashir, Dr. Rayees Ahmad, Mr. Mohd. Yonis Bhat, Mr. Siraj –ud din Watta, Mr. Faizan Ahmad Shah and Mr. Farzan Farooq Dar.
 
The programme concluded on a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Mir Shabir Ahmad H.O.D Chemistry.
