GCW hosts nutritional awareness activities to mark ‘Poshan Maah’

  Jammu, Sep 22: The Department of Home Science Government College for Women (GCW) Parade Ground in collaboration with Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal, J&K, celebrated Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month) under the aegis of “Sewa Parv” and under the guidance of the College Principal, Dr. Ravinder Kumar Tickoo on Monday. A statement issued here, said that the celebration aimed to promote nutritional awareness and healthy eating habits among students. The event was coordinated by Head of the Department of Home Science Dr. Nitu Sharma. The celebrations began on the September 18 with a Poster Making Competition on the theme “Nutritious Diet for Better Living.” Thirty participants demonstrated their artistic skills by creating various posters. The competition was judged by Prof. Jasneet Kour, HOD Political Science, Dr. Prabhjot Kour, HOD Psychology and Dr. Vishal Sharma from the Electronics Department. Nooreen, Semester I secured first Position and Second position was given to Drishty Jain and third position went to Bindu Sharma, semester 1 Student. Cooking Competition on the theme “Eat Right for a better Life” was held on 19th September 2025. A total of 15 teams participated, showcasing their culinary skills in the form of a variety of nutritious items. Team 7 was awarded the first position, while Team 5 secured the second and Team 6 got third position respectively. The event was judged by Dr. Ritu Magotra from the English Department, Dr. Surinder Parihar, Dr. Shivali Rattan from the Economics Department. The final day featured a Debate Competition on the theme “Eat Healthy, Stay Healthy.” Twenty students participated, expressing their views and arguments on the importance of healthy eating, maintaining healthy life style and adopting healthy habits etc. The judges for the event were Dr. Seema Malhotra from the English Department and Dr. Arti from the Dogri Department, GCW Parade, Jammu. Neha Sharma from semester 5th got first position whereas second position was secured by Ayesha, 3rd semester and Sakshi Sharma, semester 3rd student got third position.
