Jammu, Oct 03: As part of its ongoing two-week Induction-cum-Orientation Program for the Four-Year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP), the Government College of Education (GCOE) Jammu organized a special “Meet the Alumni” session today, honoring Padma Shri Romalo Ram, an esteemed alumnus from the 1996-97 batch.
Principal Dr. Jyoti Parihar presented Romalo Ram with a Basoli painting, crafted by the college’s students, as a token of appreciation. Dr. Parihar praised Ram’s significant contributions to promoting Dogri art, culture, and music, stating, “Our college is proud to have produced three Padma Shri awardees so far, and Romalo Ram’s legacy is a matter of great honor for our institution.”
Dr. Rakesh Bharti, Convener of ITEP, provided an introduction to Romalo Ram’s life and achievements. Ram, in his address to students, reflected on his early struggles as a student from the remote Udhampur district and how he overcame numerous challenges. He fondly recalled winning a gold medal for the college in the 1996 annual cultural event—a record that still stands. Romalo Ram urged the students to serve their community with dedication and passion.
Dr. Shalini Rana, Convener of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), encouraged students to follow Romalo Ram’s footsteps, highlighting his unwavering commitment to preserving Dogra culture and his role as a source of inspiration for both students and faculty. The event concluded with an interactive session where students expressed their appreciation for the alumnus’ words.
Faculty members Dr. Rajinder Kour, Dr. Devinder Kour, Prof. Balwan Singh, Dr. Ambica Sharma, and Dr. Suraj Prakash were also in attendance.
