Ganderbal, Mar 13: Panic gripped the Gund area of Kangan in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday morning after a gas cylinder leak triggered a low-intensity blast at the Sub Veterinary Center of the Animal Husbandry Department.
The incident occurred when a gas heater reportedly malfunctioned, causing a sudden leak followed by a minor blast. The minor blast injured Yasir Ahmad son of Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Ramwari Gund, who was working as an Artificial Insemination (AI) worker at the veterinary center.
Yasir was initially rushed to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Gund for treatment and was later referred to SKIMS Soura for advanced medical care.
A police party from Police Station Gund reached the spot shortly after the incident and has initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the leak and explosion.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Majid Tak, Block Veterinary Officer (BVO) Kangan, confirmed the incident. “When we received the report of a fire incident at the center, we immediately rushed to the spot. Upon inspection, it was found that the fire resulted from a gas heater leakage,” he said.
He further stated that the Animal Husbandry Department will conduct an internal investigation into the matter to prevent such incidents in the future.
