Budgam, Oct 02: The District Administration Budgam launched ‘Total Sanitation Campaign’ under Solid Waste Management Plan for rural Budgam to mark the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti in the district.
The sanitation campaign was launched across all 296 panchayats after District Level Plan and Bylaws were approved by District Sanitation Committee headed by District Development Commissioner Budgam, S F Hamid.
The DDC, S F Hamid visited Panchayat Halqa Nasrulapora to witness flag-off ceremony of garbage collection vehicle and inauguration of segregation shed by a local Sarpanch, Shabir Ahmad.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that on eve of Gandhi Jayanti, a Total Sanitation Campaign was launched which is being carried out by local PRIs  to ensure cleanliness and sanitation in their villages.
Under the plan, Gram Panchayats  framed user charges, hired labour and vehicle for the effective garbage collection and its disposal in  all panchayat halqas of Budgam.
DDC said it is people driven initiative and public participation is the key to make it a big success. He further added that district administration will do handholding of all the panchayats to ensure that the mechanism is institutionalized and self-sustaining.  Stressing on the cleanliness and sanitation, the DDC sensitized the local gathering about the garbage collection and its proper disposal.
He urged them to not only keep their houses clean but also their surrounding and avoid littering in streams, roadside or any other open areas.
He said that the District Administration Budgam is committed to provide full support to the local PRIs for successful implementation of the programme. However, asserted that the programme shall be successful with public participation and support only.
ADDC, Dr Akramullah Tak and ACP Mrs Zahida was also present on the occasion.
