Ganderbal, April 01: Ganderbal residents of several villages in Gund tehsil in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district are facing difficulties due to the lack of street lights in many areas.
“Pedestrian movement is affected due to darkness in areas such as Gund, Kullan, Rayil, Gagangeer, Gohipora, and Rezan. Although the panchayat body installed street lights in some places of Gund last year, many of these lights have gone defunct and the concerned authorities have failed to replace them,” said a local resident.
Since being given Tehsil status in 2015, Tehsil Gund has lacked basic facilities on the developmental front. Apart from the lack of adequate street lights, the main town also lacks a bus stand, proper drainage system, sufficient public toilets, and some other facilities. The unavailability of these facilities causes immense hardships to residents and the general public. The area witnesses a huge rush of general public on a daily basis, and the unavailability of basic facilities makes their lives harder.
The locals have appealed to the concerned authorities to identify areas without street lights as soon as possible and take action to install them. They have also urged the authorities to address the lack of other basic facilities in the area. “It is hoped that the authorities will take swift action to address these issues and provide relief to the residents of the area,” the residents said.
Block Development Officer Gund Sheikh Arif while reacting to the complaints made said that the matter will be resolved on priority basis. He said that street lights will be installed in tehsil very soon so that the people do not have to face further difficulties.
