Ganderbal, Mar 27:Residents of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district raised concerns on Monday after the river Sindh turned milky white. The unusual coloration was first spotted early in the morning and caused fear and anxiety among the local population. Some residents described the water as looking like white paint had been poured into it.
The cause of the river’s discoloration is not yet known, but some locals worry that it may be due to chemicals or other contaminants. As the river is not only a source of drinking water but also used for irrigation by farmers, there are concerns that the contamination could cause health problems.
The Assistant Director of Fisheries in Ganderbal, Dr. Salman Rouf, stated that officials from the Jal Shakti and Fisheries departments have collected water samples and tested them, but no chemicals were found. The authorities will collect more samples tomorrow following instructions from the District Development Commissioner of Ganderbal.
Despite the assurances from the authorities, residents are still anxious and want further testing to ensure that the water is safe for consumption and agricultural use. Concerned authorities have been called to investigate the matter further.”
