Ganderbal, July 21: Residents of the Hayan Palpora area in Kangan in Ganderbal district are seeking a safe and motorable bridge over the Nallah Sindh.
The existing bridge, which has been in disrepair for over three years, poses a significant threat to the safety of villagers who rely on it to access the Srinagar-Leh highway for their daily commutes.
Locals said the bridge is vital as it connects many villages across the Nallah Sindh. “We are demanding the repair of this bridge or a new concrete bridge so that villagers living on opposite sides do not face any problems,” one resident said.
Another local added, “The bridge is deteriorating with each passing day. We have appealed several times to the higher-ups, but no concrete action has been taken yet.”
Despite the installation of a steel bridge as an upgrade, residents said they have struggled for 27 years with its narrowness, which prevents safe vehicle passage and hampers efficient transportation of their produce, adversely affecting local businesses.
The residents are now appealing to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter.
