Jammu, Dec 19: In a significant development, the Revenue Department issued directives today for the delineation of lands outside water courses in the twin districts of Samba and Kathua.
According to Government Order No. 207 JK Rev of 2023, the delineation exercise has been successfully carried out in six villages of the twin districts.
This initiative comes in response to the long-standing demand of the local populace for the delineation and demarcation of lands recorded as Gair Mumkin Khad.
It is pertinent to mention here that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, had taken note of this demand and issued directives to expedite the delineation exercise. The process gained momentum following the directive from the Lieutenant Governor.
A comprehensive and scientific procedure was finalized for delineating and demarcating lands falling within and outside water bodies. Three-tier committees were constituted at the Union Territory (UT) Level, Divisional Level, and District Level.
With technical assistance from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, the delineation of khad lands in various parts of Jammu division is currently in progress.
The Revenue Department had previously undertaken delineation in seven villages of Jammu, Samba, and Kathua based on the recommendations of the three-tier committee. According to the latest order, delineation has now been completed in Katli and Bandheri villages of Samba, as well as Taraf Manjli, Majra, Bhagthali, and Maqsoospur villages of Kathua.
The delineated lands, totaling over 8000 kanals and spanning 260 khasra numbers, include both public and private lands. Some of the delineated land is earmarked for development projects, such as industrial estates. Preceding this order, nearly 9000 kanals of land had been delineated as falling outside water bodies.
The ongoing delineation process covers several other villages in the Jammu division, and it is anticipated that further delineation of public and private khad lands will be finalized in the near future. This proactive measure by the authorities is poised to address the long-pending demands of the local residents and pave the way for enhanced development in the region.
