Srinagar, May 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Government is all set to illuminate significant monuments and heritage sites in various parts of the valley during the upcoming G20 summit to be held in Srinagar next week, officials said.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri told Rising Kashmir that ahead of the G20 summit, all key monuments and heritage sites in the Valley will be illuminated for the next one week.
“Some areas of Srinagar will be illuminated as part of the Smart City Project, while the rest will be decorated by the UT administration.People are eagerly awaiting the delegates, and it is a proud moment for Kashmir to host such international event,” he added.
The officer said the summit will open new horizons of opportunities for locals, and it will give a boost to the local tourist industry in the region.
Divisional Commissioner,Bidhuri said HariParbatFort, ShankaracharyaTemple, GhantaGhar (Lal Chowk), Zero Bridge and other places in Srinagar will be illuminated. “We have also directed officials to decorate and illuminate other heritage sites, monuments in other parts of Kashmir,” he said.
Divisional Commissioner informed that 95 percent of the work has been completed and the rest will be done in the next two days.
Meanwhile, the renovation and repair of roads and preparations for the summit are in full swing, with the city of Srinagar being decorated aesthetically to welcome the distinguished guests.
The renovation and repair of roads is being carried out at a fast pace, along with the installation of hoods and other construction works. For the first time, work is also being done to decorate the outer side of the bunkers located from Srinagar International Airport to SKICC.
Another official at Srinagar administration said Shikaras in Dal Lake are being decorated, major roads, flyovers, main markets and other vital locations in Srinagar will remain illuminated during the summit to make it memorable one.
In order to enhance the beauty of the City, he said, “We have also installed 650 high mast lights to be installed at various locations in the City.”
The third G20 tourism working group conference, which will be held from May 22 to 24 at the SKICC in Srinagar on the banks of the famous Dal Lake, is anticipated to have a favorable effect on the region’s tourist and commerce sectors.
The G20 summit is expected to boost Kashmir’s worldwide profile and provide its tourist industry a fresh perspective. The tourism industry is the backbone of the economy, and this year, too, it is anticipated that a record number of visitors will come to Kashmir.
