Srinagar, May 2: A teenage boy from Rafiabad in North Kashmir has shot to internet fame after his singing video went viral, garnering millions of views and widespread praise for his soulful voice.
Rasik Ahmad Mir, a class 9 student from Sein village, Rafiabad, Baramulla, is being widely praised for his soulful rendition of the song “Jaiye Sajana” from the film Dhurandhar the Revenge.
The video, uploaded on Instagram, has crossed over 33 million views. It has also brought a massive jump in his followers. Before the viral moment, Rasik had less than 10,000 followers. Now, his account has grown to over 58,000 followers within a short span.
His performance caught the attention of popular Punjabi singer Jasmine Sandlas, who shared his video and praised his voice and emotional depth. Her appreciation helped the video reach a wider audience and added credibility to his growing popularity.
Rasik is a student of Higher Secondary School Chatoosa, Rafiabad. He said his passion for music began in childhood after listening to songs by Arijit Singh. Inspired by the singer, he started practicing on his own and recording videos using basic resources at home.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Rasik said he had been uploading videos earlier as well, but they did not receive much response. The success of “Jaiye Sajana” came as a turning point.
He said the overwhelming response has motivated him to take his music more seriously.
His father, Manzoor Ahmad Mir, said the family never expected such recognition. He said Rasik has no formal training or mentor and manages everything on his own. “He records his videos and uploads them himself. We are happy to see people appreciating his talent,” he said.
Rasik has clear ambitions for his future. He said he never wanted to become a doctor, engineer, or teacher. His focus is only on music. He hopes to build a career as a professional singer and represent his region on larger platforms.
He also expressed a desire to participate in the popular reality show Indian Idol, which he sees as a major opportunity to showcase his talent.
Rasik’s journey shows how social media can change lives. A boy from a small village in Rafiabad is now seen by millions across the country. His story is simple. He kept singing, kept sharing, and people finally noticed. It shows that talent, hard work, and patience can open doors, even from remote parts of J&K.
