Kargil, Aug 03: In a significant boost to the agricultural sector, fresh apricots from the picturesque Kargil district in the union territory have made their debut in the national market. The momentous occasion was marked by the flag-off ceremony, led by Aga Syed Mehdi Fazily, Executive Councilor of Social Welfare, Horticulture, Handloom, Animal and Sheep Husbandry Departments, LAHDC, Kargil, and Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, Deputy Commissioner and CEO of LAHDC, Kargil.
Accompanied by other officials and members of Krishak Agritech, a prominent farmer-centric organization working across the Himalayan States, the event celebrated the successful export of fresh apricots. The initiative, which strives to tap into the international market, showcases the region’s agricultural prowess and the collaborative efforts of local entrepreneurs.
DC Shrikant Balasahab Suse expressed his enthusiasm about this achievement, underlining its importance not just for Kargil, but for the entire region. Krishak Agritech’s expansion beyond domestic borders exemplifies the organization’s commitment to introducing Ladakh’s produce to global consumers.
Chief Horticulture Officer, Ali Raza, revealed that Krishak Agritech has already exported 6 metric tons of fresh apricots from Kargil and an impressive 31 metric tons from Leh. The fruits have found their way to various prominent markets across India, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and the Delhi/NCR region. Raza emphasized that the unwavering support from all stakeholders has been instrumental in driving the success of this initiative.
This milestone not only bolsters the local economy but also highlights the potential for further growth in the region’s agriculture sector. By reducing wastage and ensuring fair compensation for farmers, this endeavor sets a promising precedent for future collaborations between agricultural innovators and the international market.
