Baramulla, Apr 28: Police in Baramulla have arrested a person accused of selling fake Gondola tickets to visitors in Gulmarg tourist spot of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The arrest came after the manager of the Gulmarg Gondola Project reported 11 tourists were caught with counterfeit tickets.
The tourists told officials they had purchased the tickets from a guide.
A police official said that a case was registered under relevant sections of law in Police Station Gulmarg and an investigation was launched.
“The accused, identified as Mohammad Akhter Katari son of Ghulam Ahmad Katari, a resident of Bandi Bala Chandosoa, was taken into custody during the probe,” he said.
Police said that during the investigation it was found that the fraudsters would pre-book Gondola tickets and then sell them to gullible tourists at inflated rates.
Baramulla police have urged the visitors to be aware of such scams and to purchase tickets only from authorized vendors.
Earlier on April 08, a tourist guide was arrested by the Baramulla Police for selling fake gondola tickets to two tourists in Gulmarg. The tourists revealed that they had purchased the tickets from a tourist guide named Aashiq Hussain Magray for Rs. 2500 per ticket.
