Srinagar, June 29:
A mysterious explosion inside a scrap dealer’s house in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district claimed four lives on Monday, officials reported. The incident occurred in the Shair Colony area, home to many families involved in the scrap business.
The blast resulted in critical injuries to four persons, who were immediately rushed to the Sub District Hospital but three were declared brought dead. The fourth victim, also critically injured, was referred to SKIMS Soura but he too succumbed on way .
SSP Sopore Divya Dev said that the explosion occurred while the victims were unloading scrap recently acquired from Ladakh.
The deceased has been identified as Nazir Ahmad Nadroo, Azam Mohi-ud-in Mir, Moomin Ashraf Mir, and Adil Rashid Bhat, all of whom were scrap dealers.
“An FIR has been lodged, and an investigation is underway. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has arrived at the scene. Medical-legal formalities for the bodies are being carried out at the hospital,” SSP Dev added.
Local resident Abdul Hamid recounted the incident, stating, “We heard a blast in the afternoon and initially thought it was an air blast. When we rushed to Shair Colony, we saw three dead bodies. They were unloading the scrap from a truck and grading it accordingly.” Hamid mentioned that the victims had recently returned from Ladakh with scrap material that proved fatal.
BMO Sopore confirmed that three persons were declared dead on arrival at the hospital, and the fourth succumbed to injuries while being shifted to SKIMS.
Thousands gathered in Shair Colony for the funeral prayers of the deceased, led by a local Imam. The community mourned the loss of the four scrap dealers amid sobs and tears.
