Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have booked four notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS act in Awantipora besides, arrested a drug peddler alongwith huge quantity of contraband substance in Budgam.

A Police spokesman said that in Awantipora, Police have booked 04 notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

The 04 notorious drug peddlers have been identified as Bakhtawar Ahmad Makroo son of Late Ab Rahim Makroo resident of Gulzapora Batpora, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat son of Late Abdul Ahad Bhat, Ab Qayoom Bhat son of Late Abdul Khaliq Bhat, both residents of Larkipora Padgampora and Tariq Ahmad Mir son of Late Abdul Gani Mir son in law of Mohd Ahsan Mir resident of Kawani Awantipora.

It is pertinent to mention that the above drug peddlers were involved in NDPS cases registered in various Police Stations of Police District Awantipora and were promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth. Despite their involvement in many FIRs, these drug peddlers did not mend their activities and were again promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.

Subsequently, the cases were duly processed and after obtaining sanctions from the competent authority, the arrested drug peddlers were detained under PIT NDPS act.

Meanwhile in Budgam, a Police party of PP Hardipanzo during area domination at Waragam Beerwah, intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Tariq Ahmad Malik son of Ali Mohammad Malik resident of Waragam Beerwah. During search, huge quantity of contraband (39 Charas sticks) weighing 1.045Kgs were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
