Four die, 26 injured in Poonch road accident

As many as four people died, while 26 were injured in a road accident at Dehri Ralyoute area of Manjakote Tehsil in Rajouri district on Thursday.

The accident happened a day after 11 people lost their lives, while 27 were seriously injured after a mini-bus rolled down into a gorge in Sawjian area of Poonch district.

Giving details about the today’s accident, Tehsildar Manjakote Javed Ahmed said a bus, which was on its way to Jammu from Surankote, Poonch, skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge (around 400 feet) at Dehri Ralyoute area of Manjakote Tehsil, resulting in death of four persons and injuries to 26 others.

“Three of the seriously injured have been shifted to Government Medical College Jammu for advanced treatment,” he said.

Police identified the deceased as Mohammad Jahangir Khan, 37, son of Mohammad Riaz Khan of Dharati, Mendhar; Nazia Akhtar, 25, daughter of Mohammad Haneef of Dabrote; Harshal Choudhary, 25, of Chowki Nowshera, and Ravaiz Iqbal, 22, son of Mohammad Iqbal of Drabab, Surankote.

The injured have been identified as Aftaj, 30, son of Mohammad Ashraf of Surankote; Mohammad Sajjad, 23, son of Haqnawaz of Panjgrain; Nazir Shah, 50, son of Ali Akbar of Samote, Surankote; Tasveer Begum, 50, wife of Mohammad Khursheed of Dharati, Mendhar; Maqsood Ahmed, 24, son of Mohammad Khursheed of Marhote, Surankote; Afraz Ahmed, 17, son of Niaz Ahmed of Fazlabad, Surankote; Mohammad Shakoor, 44, son of Mohammad Sadeeq of Dodasan Bala; Shamshir Ahmed, 65, son of Mohammad Bashir of Bhatian; Zabaida Begum, 55, wife of Niaz Ahmed of Fazlabad, Surankote; Mohammad Sharif, 50, son of Mohammad Shafi of Dehri Ralyoute; Nazir Ahmed, 65, son of Mohammad Wazir of Marhote, Surankote; Naheed Akhtar (age not known), wife of Aurangzeb of Dhar Gloon, Mendhar; Mohammad Sagar, 17, son of Mohammad Rashid Khan of Fazlabad, Surankote; Ishfaq Ahmed (age not known) son of Haqnawaz of Thandapani, Manjakote; Zensha, 1.5 years old, daughter of Aurangzeb of Dhar Gloom, Mendhar; Shamim Akhtar daughter of Mohammad Akram of Kotan, Mendhar; Mohammad Akram of Kotan Mendhar; Mia Mohammad son of Hamida of Fagla Surankote; Mohammad Tariq, son of Mehdi Hussain of Muradabad, UP; Mohammad Rashid Khan son of Alyas Khan of Fagla, Surankote; Sharoon Mir, son of Mohammad Sadiq of Kotan, Mendhar; Zoya Shah, 12, daughter of Aurangzeb Shah of Dhar Gloon, Mendhar; and four others whose identities were not known at the time of writing this report.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the tragic accident.

“Anguished by the loss of lives due to a tragic accident in Rajouri. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. The district administration is providing all possible assistance,” he wrote on Twitter on Thursday.
