Srinagar, Aug 9: In a series of shocking incidents, Srinagar Police arrested a man and two women allegedly involved in separate criminal activities in the Khanyar and Nishat areas. The arrests were made following swift police actions, reflecting the force’s commitment to maintaining public safety.
In a shocking case, a man was arrested for attempting to murder his own son in the Sonwar area of the city. The accused, identified as Mehmood Ahmad Wani, reportedly engaged in a heated argument with his son, which escalated into a violent altercation. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently in stable condition. “The incident led to the filing of FIR No. 121/2023 under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station. The weapon used in the attack has also been recovered.”
In another incident, two women, Urfana Bhat and Rukhsana, residents of Nishat, were arrested for allegedly assaulting and injuring another woman inside a shop at Boulevard Road. The victim, who sustained injuries, was taken to the hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition. The incident prompted the registration of FIR No. 119/2023 under the appropriate sections at RM Bagh Police Station.
In another shocking incident, a man named Uzair Hameed Mir was apprehended for molesting and injuring a girl. According to reports, “He offered the victim a lift and attempted to molest her. When she resisted, he allegedly threw her out of the car.”
The incident led to the registration of FIR in Rainawari Police Station. The car used in the crime has also been seized.

STD organises street play on ‘Responsible Taxation & Sustainable Development’ at Poloview market
Srinagar, Aug 09: As part of ongoing celebrations of “Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav” under the theme “Mere Matti Mera Desh” State Taxes Department (STD) on Wednesday organized a thought-provoking street play/skit on the theme ‘Responsible Taxation and Sustainable Development’ at Poloview Market here.
The primary message of the skit was to shed light on the critical issue of tax evasion and detrimental effects of haphazard mining on the environment.
Commissioner State Taxes, Dr. Rashmi Singh was also present at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rashmi Singh, said that the STD remains committed to ensuring tax compliance, sustainable mining and safeguarding the environment for the present and future generations. “Events like these contribute to a greater understanding of the complex interplay between taxation, mining, and environmental sustainability”, she said.
Additional Commissioner State Taxes Kashmir, Shakeel Maqbool on the occasion said that the street play/skit was primarily meant to create awareness among the public about the importance of tax compliance in supporting sustainable mining practices and environmental protection.
