Jammu, Dec 16: Former Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Masood Choudhary passed away on Friday at his Gandhi Nagar residence here. 78-year-old Choudhary, the founder of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri and former chief patron of Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust Jammu, was not well for the past some time.
Known as a social reformer, educationist, and able administrator among the Gujjar community, Choudhary was born on April 10, 1944, in Kala Bann village of Poonch district.
A law graduate from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Dr Masood Choudhary began his career as DySP in 1967 and retired from services in 2004 as Additional Director General of Police, Headquarters.
In 1989, he set up Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust, a voluntary organisation committed to improving the living condition of Gujjars in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per reports, his Namaz-e-Janaja was performed at Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust.
DGP, all ranks of JKP condole demise
Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh and all ranks of Jammu & Kashmir Police expressed grief over the demise of ADGP Masud Choudhary (retired).
In his condolence message, the DGP expressed grief over the loss of a “prominent educator, social reformer, an administrator and a par excellent police officer”. “The officer was a great source of knowledge and a great human being. His services and contributions to the organization and to the society will always be remembered,” he said.
DGP Dilbag Singh, Commandant General HG, CD & SDRF Dr B Srinivas, Spl DG Crime J&K A K Choudhary, ADsGP Mukesh Singh, M K Sinha, Danesh Rana and other top serving and retired police officers of J&K Police attended the wreath-laying ceremony of the deceased officer at Channi Himmat, Jammu, a police spokesperson said in a statement.
The DGP also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and relatives of the deceased officer on behalf of the Jammu & Kashmir Police Pariwar and prayed for the departed soul.
“A law graduate Masud Choudhary began his career as DySP in 1967 in J&K Police and was later inducted to the IPS cadre. He has contributed to the J&K Police in various capacities which include District Police Chief of Jammu, Kathua, Poonch, Udhampur and Srinagar districts, SSP Vigilance Jammu and CID SB Jammu. As DIG, he was posted at Vigilance J&K, Jammu-Kathua range, Administrator PHQ, Director Police Academy. He served as IGP & ADGP Crime & Railways J&K and retired as ADGP Police Headquarters in the year 2003. He was also the founder Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University,” the spokesperson said.
BGSBU to observe 3-day mourning
Vice Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri Prof. Akbar Masood, senior functionaries and faculty members of the varsity on Friday expressed condolence over the demise of the university’s founder Dr. Masud Choudhary.
The Vice Chancellor declared three-day mourning as a mark of respect for the founder Vice Chancellor of BGSBU who passed away on Friday.
Recalling the contribution of Dr. Masud Choudhary, Prof. Akbar said, “The contribution of Masud Sahib in establishing the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University shall always be remembered. He was an able administrator, astute academician and a great thinker.”
Prof. Akbar prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. ” I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Jenab Masud Choudhary sahib. It is a moment of grief and loss for the entire BGSBU fraternity. On behalf of the whole BGSBU family, I express my deepest condolences and pray to Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and patience to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss”, he said.
Dean Academic Affairs, Dean of Students, Registrar, Dean of various schools, heads of various departments, faculty members, officers and staff of the university also condoled the demise of Dr. Masud Choudhary and expressed their solidarity with the bereaved family.
