Kulgam, Mar 08: Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) on Friday said that the forest department has fixed a target of planting and distributing up to 1.75 crore plants this year.
The PCCF & HoFF, Roshan Jaggi, said that there would be a significant plantation effort in south Kashmir. He also inaugurated the Block Foresters Hut in Kulgam, constructed during the current financial year.
“We are also focusing on Agro or farm forestry, which aids in increasing forest produce. This supports the wood industry by providing raw materials, generating more livelihoods and employment opportunities, and contributing to environmental cleanliness,” he said.
He said that it’s a win-win situation, and they are focusing on agroforestry. “The social forestry department is collaborating with panchayats on the plantation drive, and later upon maturity of the trees, the maximum portion goes to the Panchayat. This program is beneficial for a lot of people.”
