Srinagar, July 19: A casual labourer of forest department was killed and another employee was injured after suspected terrorists opened fire at Bangender Bridge in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said on Wednesday.
The slain labourer identified as Imran Yousuf Wani, a resident of Mohnu, Charari-sherif, succumbed to his injuries at SMHS hospital, while Jahangir Ahmed Chechi (Forester), a resident of Gogjipather, Chadoora was injured during the incident.
Medical Superintendent, SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, Dr Muzaffar Zargar told Rising Kashmir that Imran had  sustained critical bullet injury in his thigh and around 5:30 pm succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
A police spokesman said that police station Rajpora Pulwama received information through a reliable source that at about 12:30 am, terrorists fired upon a team of forest department of Budgam district causing injuries to two employees.
“Both employees had laid a naka to apprehend the timber smugglers near Bangender Bridge falling under the JD PS Rajpora in Pulwama,” he said.
The spokesman said that the injured were evacuated by other members of the forest team to Pakherpora Hospital for treatment. Both were undergoing treatment at the hospital, however, Imran succumbed to injuries while Jahangir (forester) received minor superficial bruises that could have been because of a fall,” he said
The police have registered FIR no 79 /2023 U/sec 16,20 UAP ( Act) , 307  IPC, and 7/ 27 IA Act at PS Rajpora and the investigation was taken up.
“Soon after the incident, the whole area was cordoned off by Police, army and paramilitary forces, and an intensive search operation was launched,” he said.
The police further said that during the search of the site of crime, two empty fired cartridges of Ak 47 ammunition and one bullet head were recovered from the spot.
“We have launched CASO in the area to nab the miscreants involved in the incident,” he said.
