Srinagar, Feb 27: Following the heavy snowfall along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir, security forces have intensified surveillance along the borders and have deployed high-tech monitoring systems to counter infiltration attempts, officials said on Thursday.
A senior Army official said that heightened alertness is in place, particularly in Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipora districts, where snow-covered terrain poses security challenges.
“We are fully vigilant to safeguard the borders, ensuring the safety of civilians. Advanced surveillance tools help detect infiltration and other suspicious activities,” he said.
To bolster security, multiple 360-degree high-tech CCTV cameras have been installed along the LoC, providing round-the-clock monitoring. Thermal imaging devices, night-vision-equipped cameras, Ground Surveillance Radars (GSR), and motion sensors track movement over long distances, even in low visibility due to snowfall.
“Additionally, drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with thermal sensors and high-resolution cameras conduct aerial reconnaissance in challenging terrains. Night vision goggles (NVGs) enable troops to detect movement in low-light conditions, while snowmobiles and patrol vehicles ensure rapid response,” he said.
The Army official said that any detected activity is immediately cross-checked with on-ground teams, and necessary actions are taken. The enemy continuously tries to disrupt peace, but our forces remain alert to foil infiltration attempts and curb cross-border smuggling of narcotics and weapons, he said.
Earlier this month, IG BSF Kashmir Frontier Yadav said that infiltration attempts often increase before winter sets in. We are fully prepared to counter any threats.
“Terrorists attempt to exploit border gaps, but our forces dominate vulnerable areas to ensure such efforts are thwarted,” he said.
Meanwhile, the BSF Spokesman said that the safety of people is our responsibility. BSF remains always vigilant along the LoC, he added.
