Ganderbal, Apr 30: Authorities in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have issued a precautionary advisory in light of prevailing inclement weather conditions, warning of heightened risks of flash floods and avalanches. Residents, particularly those residing near hilly areas, are urged to exercise caution and refrain from unnecessary travel to higher elevations, especially during nighttime. They are advised to remain indoors until weather conditions improve, with a specific caution against venturing into avalanche-prone areas.
An official order emphasized the persistent inclement weather conditions and the looming threat of flash floods and avalanches, particularly above 2200 meters in Ganderbal. The general public, especially those residing in hilly areas, are advised to avoid unnecessary travel to higher reaches, especially during nighttime. They are instructed to stay indoors until the weather improves and are cautioned against venturing into avalanche-prone areas.
It stated that heavy rainfall can lead to flooded roads and hazardous driving conditions.
Furthermore, the traffic movement from Gagangeer Check post towards Sonamarg shall remains suspended for 24 Hours. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kangan, SDPO Kangan, DySP Traffic Police Ganderbal& Beacon Authorities shall closely monitor the situation and update for further orders.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant and comply with safety instructions to mitigate risks posed by the adverse weather conditions.
