BUDGAM, JUNE 08: The district administration and police administration of Budgam on Thursday declared five villages of the Budgam district drug-free villages under the Nasha Mukht Abhiyan.
The five villages that have been declared drug-free villages include Dandoosa, Bonen, Hardwail, Naroo, and Khag.
These villages have achieved cent percent drug-free status with the concerted efforts of the district administration, police administration, teachers of the school education department, field functionaries of the social welfare department, PRIs, and convergent community participants.
Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, Akshay Labroo said that a multi-pronged strategy involving strict enforcement registration of FIRs, mass awareness generation, community mobilisation, destruction of poppy cultivation, etc. has been used for implementing Nasha, Mukht, Abhiyan in Budgam.
“We are committed to working towards the drug-free J&K mission of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and shall implement the same in the Budgam district.
Senior Superintendent of Budgam Police Al Tahir Gilani said that district police, in close coordination with the civil administration, are keeping strict vigil over the drug menace, and strict penal action under the law shall be taken against those involved in spreading this menace.
“Recently, 48 cases have been registered, and 69 persons have been arrested towards this end,” he said.
