The Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports (JIM&WS) marked a significant milestone with the successful conclusion of its inaugural Method of Instruction Course in Skiing (MOI-01) held from February 22 to March 7, 2025, at Sonamarg.

This course, aimed at enhancing the instructional capabilities of aspiring ski instructors, was led by Col. Hem Chandra Singh, Principal of JIM&WS, and Everester Mahfooz Ilahi, a renowned skier and mountaineer with years of experience.

The 14-day intensive program attracted trainees from all across India, including three from Jammu & Kashmir—Mr. Tajinder Singh, Mr. Mudasir Yaqoob Najar, and Mr. Tahir Shafi. Participants received hands-on training in skiing techniques and instructional methodologies, empowering them with advanced skills to become proficient and qualified skiing instructors.

Col. Hem Chandra Singh expressed his satisfaction with the course’s success, emphasizing that it was a crucial step in developing world-class skiing instructors in India. With the leadership of seasoned experts like Mahfooz Ilahi, the program provided participants with in-depth knowledge of teaching strategies, ski techniques, and safety measures that are essential for training the next generation of skiers.

The course has been hailed as a landmark achievement, not just for JIM&WS, but also for the promotion of winter sports in India, especially in regions like Jammu & Kashmir, where the sport has significant potential for growth.

The event’s successful conclusion has left the participants eager to apply their newfound knowledge, ensuring a brighter future for skiing instruction in India.
