Ganderbal, Jan 06: In a historic milestone for the picturesque region of Sonamarg, the first-ever Ice Skating camp unfolded from December 24th to January 6th, 2024. A total of 20 local boys received expert training from Mohd Ashraf Dijoo, a seasoned professional associated with the Ice Skating association of J&K.
The event, a collaborative effort between local stakeholders and key organizers including the district administration of Ganderbal, Youth Services and Sports Department, Education, Tourism, and the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), showcased the unity and support from the community.
At the grand concluding ceremony, a remarkable prize distribution took place, honoring the hard work and dedication of the participants. Winners were awarded prestigious medals and certificates, symbolizing their achievements in the icy realm. To inspire and encourage the budding skaters, a contingent of national-level ice skaters graced the event, leaving an indelible mark on the aspiring talents.
Witnessing the success and positive impact of the camp, stakeholders from all walks of life, including tourists and locals, expressed their appreciation. Many voiced their belief that such events should become a regular feature in Sonamarg, adding vibrancy to the destination’s offerings.
