Firing incident at GMC Kathua leaves police officer injured, ‘gangster’ dead

Srinagar, Apr 03: : In a late-night confrontation between law enforcement and ‘gangsters’, chaos erupted at the Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua, resulting in a police sub-inspector sustaining injuries and the death of one gangster.

Reports reaching news agency Kashmir Dot Com that the incident unfolded around 10:35 PM, with gunfire echoing through the premises as police engaged in a shootout with unidentified assailants. Preliminary reports suggest that the exchange of fire occurred within the vicinity of GMC Kathua, leaving one police sub-inspector, identified as Deepak Sharma, wounded, they said.

Authorities have confirmed the demise of one gangster as a consequence of the confrontation, although the identity of the deceased individual remains undisclosed pending further investigation.

Details surrounding the motives behind the clash and the identities of those involved are yet to be disclosed by law enforcement officials, as the investigation into the incident continues.

The injured police officer, PSI Deepak Sharma, is reported to be receiving medical treatment for his injuries, the extent of which has not been revealed at the time of reporting.

Further updates on the incident are awaited as authorities delve deeper into unraveling the circumstances surrounding the shootout at GMC Kathua. (KDC)
