Firefighters control major blaze at Pulwama Cold Store after 12 hours

An intense firefighting operation lasting over 12 hours successfully brought a major fire under control at the Valley Fresh Cold Chain (cold store) in Pulwama, officials said on Thursday. As Per F&E Department officials, The fire erupted in a single-storey pucca structure with GCI sheet roofing, used for storing cardboard apple boxes and plastic crates. The operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Assistant Director, Fire & Emergency Services Pulwama, Moin-ul-Islam. Multiple fire tenders along with firefighting personnel were pressed into service to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining structures. Given the magnitude of the fire and the presence of highly combustible material, JCB machines were deployed to remove debris and facilitate effective firefighting, officials said. A huge quantity of cardboard apple boxes and plastic crates was damaged in the incident. The cause of the fire is being ascertained. Meanwhile, in a separate incident at Pinglana area of Pulwama, a double-storey pucca residential house was damaged in a fire caused by an electric short circuit. Officials said the roofing, ceiling, doors, windows and household goods on the first floor suffered damage. However, timely intervention by Fire & Emergency Services brought the fire under control, averting any loss of life. Fire & Emergency Services have advised the general public to exercise caution while using electrical appliances and to strictly follow fire safety norms to prevent such incidents.
