Jammu, Nov 11 : On the night of Monday, 11th November 2024, a fire broke out in the Gujjar Bakarwal Boys’ Hostel located in the Chatroo area of District Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir.
The fire severely damaged the first floor of the hostel around 1:30 AM. However, thanks to the heroic and prompt actions of the hostel’s
warden, staff, and local authorities, the situation was swiftly brought under control, and all students were safely evacuated without any casualties or injuries.
Warden Ali Bumbla, Assistant Warden Farooq Ahmad Bumbla, and the hostel staff played a crucial role in the emergency response. Their quick thinking, leadership, and calmness under pressure ensured that all 50 students were safely evacuated from the
building.
The staff not only guided the students to safety but also coordinated closely with local authorities, including fire and emergency services, to bring the situation under control and prevent further damage. Their collective efforts prevented any loss
of life or injury during the incident.
The Director of Tribal Affairs Department, Shri Musheer Ahmad Mirza, JKAS, along with district officials, reached the site on Monday morning to assess the situation.
Immediate relief measures were initiated. The Directorate of Tribal Affairs provided the affected students with essential items, including uniforms, books, notebooks, ties, and other necessary materials that were damaged during the fire. The District Administration also supplied beds, pillows, and mattresses to the students, ensuring
their comfort and well-being.
The fire, which was caused by a short circuit, was swiftly brought under control with the coordination of fire and emergency services.
As a precautionary measure, the students residing on the first floor were safely relocated to the ground floor to avoid any further risk.
At the time of the incident, 50 students were residing in the hostel, all of whom have resumed their studies without disruption.
Thanks to the immediate and coordinated actions of the hostel staff, along with the support from the Directorate of Tribal Affairs and the District Administration, the students’ education was not hampered, and they are attending their classes as usual.
The Directorate of Tribal Affairs assures that all efforts will be made to restore the hostel to normal conditions and provide continued support to the students.
