Anantnag, Nov 05: Fire engulfed several residential houses in Yakerbora Bala, a remote village in the Anantnag district on Saturday afternoon.
According to locals, fire broke out from residential house of Abdul Rehman Ganie which soon spread to adjacent houses.
The massive fire also damaged the nearby mosque and a cowshed.
Tablib Hussain, a local said after enormous efforts from locals and fire fighters the blaze was finally doused.
An official of Fire and Emergency Services said, “Around five residential houses suffered damage in the fire incident. Two houses were completely gutted and three houses received partial damage. The houses were three storeyed buildings and some of them were Kaccha houses,” he said.
He further said that the area is hilly and some 20 kilometres away from the fire station and obviously it would take a little time to reach there.
Meanwhile, Congress Ex-President J&K Ghulam Ahmad Mir visited the area and appealed to the administration for immediate relief and compensation to the fire victims.
Mir said that the weather prediction isn’t good, and the administration should provide them with the essentials and other material so that the families don’t suffer in this season.
The locals also urged the administration to sanction a fire service station to this upper belt of Kapran.
“The fire and emergency station will be a relief to the people of this area. Else such things will prove disastrous for us in future,” they added.
