Baramulla, July 24: Police on Monday said they apprehended two pickpockets, including a female suspect, who were targeting vulnerable patients and their attendants visiting the Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla.
A police official said the suspects were arrested on Monday and were found in possession of stolen cash.
Under the supervision of Altaf Ahmad, JKPS, DySP Headquarters Baramulla, and with the assistance of Inspector Vilayat Hussain, SHO Police Station Baramulla, the police were able to apprehend the two pickpockets, he said.
The arrested persons were identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Gojree, son of Bashir Ahmad Gojree, hailing from Drangbal, and Manesha, a resident of New Plot Jammu with an address at Drangbal, Baramulla.
A healthcare official said the nefarious activities of these pickpockets had been causing distress to patients and their attendants at GMC Baramulla. “Taking advantage of the high influx of patients, they targeted individuals who were already under stress due to their medical situations,” the police official said.
He said the vigilance of the police, coupled with prompt action, brought the culprits to justice.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their crimes, revealing that they specifically focused on stealing money from unsuspecting victims. “The recovered stolen cash has been duly seized as evidence for the ongoing investigation,” he said.
The authorities have registered a case under the relevant sections of the law at the Police Station Baramulla and initiated a comprehensive investigation to unearth any possible accomplices or similar incidents in the past.
