Srinagar, Aug 28: A fast-track court in Kupwara convicted two accused individuals in separate NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases.
The cases were prosecuted by Dar Abdul Rashid, Additional Public Prosecutor at the FTC/NIA Court in Kupwara.
In the first case, which was registered under FIR No 56 of the Year 2019 at PS Karnah, titled “State Versus Syed Ishfaq & Anr,” Syed Ishfaq and Khurshid Ahmad Gojar, both residents of Jabdi Karnah, were found guilty under U/S 08/21 of the NDPS Act. The court recovered a staggering 15 kilograms of Heroin from the duo on February 12, 2019. The quantum of punishment for the convicted individuals is scheduled to be determined on September 4, 2023.
In a similar instance that took place in June 2023, two individuals identified as Mohammad Shafi Lone and Bilal Ahmad Dar, residents of Sopore, were convicted under FIR No: 45/2020 U/s 8/21 NDPS Act. The fast-track court handed down a sentence of 10 years imprisonment along with a fine of 1 lakh rupees to each of the convicted individuals.
These convictions highlight the diligent efforts of the fast-track court system in Kupwara, specifically in dealing with NDPS-related offences.
The unwavering commitment of Dar Abdul Rashid, the Additional Public Prosecutor, in prosecuting these cases has played a pivotal role in upholding the law and ensuring justice.
The ANTF (Anti-Narcotics Task Force) came into existence on May 14, 2020, following directions from the home department. Its purpose was to combat the smuggling of drugs in the Jammu and Kashmir region. The ANTF established two police stations, one in Jammu and another in Kashmir, both overseen by the IGP Crime.
